Did you know John Knott's Veterinary Surgery can offer certified fishing equipment disinfection services for Gyrodactylus Salaris?
Planning to go fresh water fishing in Iceland? If so, you will need to have your fishing equipment and waders disinfected and certified by a qualified veterinary before you leave the UK.
Iceland and certain other countries are trying to protect their fragile water courses from the Gyrodactylus Salaris fluke-like organism which can devastate populations of wild salmon.
Found Naturally in Sweden and Russia where the organism seems to do relatively little damage, it can cause havoc in areas where the local fish have no resistance. Although not found in the UK, the Icelandic Food & Veterinary Authority will not allow you to bring your equipment into the country unless you have a disinfection certificate. If you don't have one, Icelandic customs will seize and disinfect your equipment at the airport at your expense which can take some time (and money). Click here for more information.
The same rules apply to riding boots if you are planning on Pony Trekking in Iceland!
Phone John Knott's Veterinary Surgery on 01962 884 013 to arrange to have your fishing equipment and riding boots disinfected.
